Are Atkins Diet And Low Carb Diets Safe?

Are low carb diets safe? How safe is Atkins diet? Are low carb and Atkins diets dangerous to your ? These are burning questions for dieters all over the world.

I have personally tried low carb diets and Atkins diet and these diets made me lose weight very quickly. However not only did I lose body fat weight, I also lost muscle weight. I had very obvious muscle and fat loss because I can visually see my reduced muscle mass in the mirror.

Most Recommended Tips for Are Atkins Diet And Low Carb Diets Safe?http://www.dietbuzzer.com/blog/best-time-for-you-to-lose-weight.html

This certainly isn’t healthy. Furthermore, the more muscle mass that you lose, the less toned your body shape is. The end result is that you will end up thin and yet looked flabby with lose skin.

The frustrating part will be that after you are off the low carb or Atkins diet, you will very probably gain back all the weight that you have loss and even more. This is because your muscles are active and they continuously burn calories. Since you have less fewer muscle mass now, your body’s metabolism or capacity to burn calories slows down tremendously.

In other words, when you put on weight again, you are putting on body fat instead of muscles if you do not exercise. You will be fatter and less healthy than before you went on the low carb or Atkins diet. To compound matters, because of lesser muscle tissues resulting in lower metabolism and thus lesser calories being burnt, you are going to get fatter.

Since then I have stayed off both low carb and Atkins diet. Both types of diets are almost similar as they require you to cut down drastically on your consumption of carbohydrates. Atkins diet went a step further by advocating almost no carbohydrate consumption for 2 weeks before adding some to your meals gradually thereafter.

Besides losing muscles, how safe are low carb diets? This is what Dr Lyn Steffen and Dr Jennifer Nettleton from the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health commentated in a Lancet report, “Low carbohydrate diets for weight management are far from healthy, given their association with ketosis, constipation or diarrhea, halitosis, headache and general fatigue to name a few.”

The doctors warned that the diet increases protein load on the kidneys and alters the balance of acid in the body. This also results in loss of minerals from the bone stores and affect bone strength. The doctors went on to say that, “Our most important criterion should be indisputable safety and low carbohydrate diets currently fall short of this benchmark.”

Do Ultra Thin Pads Really Offer the Same Protection as Thick Pads?

I have a heavy period and I like tampons, but the thing is that as soon as I insert a tampon I feel really dizzy and lightheaded The minute that I take it out I am better. It’s as if I have some allergy to them. I have also tried the instead soft cup, but it’s so hard to insert bc I am a virgin, and is quite painful. I typically use Stay Free Overnight but those pads are so thick to me. My question is, do the thing pads really offer the same amount of protection. I am intersted in giving them a try.
Also I insert the tampon in correctly to where I cannot feel anything, but they always cause me to be nauseous and to have more cramps. So it’s not a matter of insertion, and I have these symptoms with every brand of tampon I have tried ranging from all of the sizes.

thin pads make you leak…badly..especially if you have a heavy period

Sodium Pain

How Your Diet Can Help Relieve Arthritis Pain

Everyone needs to eat a well-balanced diet. But it’s even more important for those suffering with the pain and swelling of arthritic joints.

A good diet includes foods from each of the five basic groups:

-Breads and cereals.
-Fruits.
-Vegetables.
-Poultry, fish, lean meats, or dried beans.
--fat milk, cheese, yogurt.

Arthritis can make it difficult to eat a good variety of foods. Fatigue and pain can sap your appetite, while swollen joints and loss of movement may cause you to avoid foods that require more time and effort to prepare. Certain medications may also affect what you can eat.

Let’s begin by listing some foods arthritis sufferers should avoid.

The most common food culprits for arthritis patients include:
-Sugar.
-Caffeine.
-Citrus.
-Salt.
-Red meat.
-Dairy products.
-Additives.
-Soft drinks.
-Corn.
-Flour.

If you eat any of these foods, and notice an increase in symptoms, the odds are you have a slight allergy to the food and should stop eating it to alleviate symptoms.

Many scientists believe that the increase in our increase in sugar consumption and the widespread use of soda pop can be linked to an increase of arthritis. Whether this is true or not is still under debate, but most physician’s agree that limiting both sugar and soda may help reduce symptoms in many patients.

Preparing Food:
Preparing healthy meals can become a daily struggle for an arthritis patient, especially during a flare-up. Try these tips to make cooking easier:

-Use convenience foods on particularly difficult days.
-Buy prepackages fruits and vegetables that are already diced and cut
-Cook double portions when you are feeling well, and freeze one for days when cooking is a struggle

Mixing Food and Medicine:
Some arthritis medications can affect the amount of certain nutrients in your diet. For example, corticosteroids can cause your body to lose potassium and retain sodium; antacids may contain high levels of sodium and magnesium. This can be especially dangerous is you have kidney problem; Colchicines used for gout can affect how well vitamin B-12 is absorbed; and Penicillamine used for rheumatoid arthritis lowers levels of copper. For most people, eating a variety of foods will help keep up the levels of these nutrients. That’s why eating right is so important to keep new symptoms at bay.

Foods That Aggravate Arthritis:
There have been no foods scientifically linked to arthritis or its symptoms, but many sufferers insist that too much coffee, tea or caffeine can aggravate symptoms, as can excess sodium in the diet. There is a rare form of arthritis called Sprue, which is caused by a wheat allergy, and when those products are eliminated form the diet, the arthritis symptoms disappear.

Basically, seems to point to a well-balanced nutritional diet as a great supplement to any arthritis treatment. If a patient finds a food to be aggravating to their condition, they should discontinue its use.

Herbs For Cats

Flea allergies? Hot spots? Cats suffer from a variety of issues that affect their . While plenty of chemical-based treatments are designed to help them combat harsh symptoms, many pet lovers prefer to use natural or organic solutions to treat cats. Natural cures help avoid the often harsh side effects that come with prescription chemicals.

Worms, skin conditions, depression, anxiety; these conditions and others can plague indoor and outdoor cats with both physical and emotional symptoms. From coconut oil to vinegar, however, safe solutions are easy to find and apply.

Products can also be purchased online. For more information, please visit the following website: http://herbsforcats.net

Organic Solutions for Cat Skin Conditions

Skin allergies and “hot spots” are among the most problematic cat conditions. Often the result of overly-sensitive skin, poor diet, or flea allergies, the symptoms include redness, irritation, fur pulling (resulting in bald spots), scabs, and nervousness. Treating these areas to prevent discomfort or infection can be challenging, since a cat’s tendency to lick sore spots removes medicine.

Safe remedies that both treat the spots directly (and that cats can ingest for benefits) are surprisingly simple. Coconut Oil is a soothing natural cream that promotes healing for skin conditions; intended for consumption, the coconut has positive properties for cats that are willing to eat it as well.

Soothe irritated skin with a simple lemon and water rinse. Unlike harsh soaps which leave residue, a natural lemon juice rinse can help cleanse skin and soothe irritation. For cats that resist water contact, try daubing it directly onto the spot with an extra-damp sponge of the solution.

Boosting a Cat’s Immune System

Among the internal remedies that benefit cats are herbal remedies and popular supplements. Brewer’s Yeast helps boost immunity with cats. A powdered form can be sprinkled directly over their or mixed into canned cat ; some cats will take a small pill variety if they like the taste.

Supplements like fish oil can also improve immune system response. The oils are usually purchased in gel cap form from the vitamin and supplement sections in retail stores; the capsules are then opened and the oils applied directly to the cat’s food.

Coconut oil can also be administered for internal issues, such as worms, hairballs, and some autoimmune conditions. Raw pumpkin (canned, non-pie mixtures) can be administered in a daily tablespoon to treat diarrhea and other digestive complaints that plague cats.

Treating Anxiety and Depression in Cats

Help calm anxious or unhappy cats with a few safe supplements that improve emotional well-being; and a few tricks that help distract cats engaging in obsessive-compulsive habits. A daub of vinegar on a cat’s paw, for instance, can distract it from nervous behavior like fur-pulling or scratching. It can also be used to treat other condictions, such as fungus or infection.

Treat a cat’s mental well-being with supplements that boost vitamin E for mental health. Increased, safe levels of vitamin E can help cats combat stress, anxiety, and depression.

While results are not always guaranteed (and sometimes slower than traditional medications), many pet owners feel the wait is worth it to avoid potentially harmful chemicals. With safer, natural solutions readily available, patient pet lovers can treat many of the most uncomfortable ailments suffered by cats.

Many natural remedies can be found at home. Others can be purchased online. Both provide a natural, safe, effective cure for your feline friend. For more information on purchasing herbs for cats online, please visit http://herbsforcats.net.

When to put cat with IBD to sleep?

I know there’s no magic answer, but I can’t determine whether to put Sonny to sleep. He’s an 11-year-old orange tabby with Irritable Bowel Disorder (IBD). There’s no cure; basically he’s had diarrhea daily for almost 3 years. We’ve tried lots of things (not everything), but steroids, diet changes, antibiotics, etc. and nothing helps long term.

Lately he did really well with 9 Lives Tuna mixed with pumpkin – he actually had normal stools for the first time in years. But now he won’t eat that food anymore. His weight is down to 6.5 pounds (skin and bones) from original weight of 11.5 pounds.

For the past week he hasn’t felt well, and the IBD causes stomach pains before the diarrhea (and the diarrhea is painful too; if you’ve ever had it, you know). When I don’t feed him, he’s -free, but hungry and constantly begging for food/meowing/crying. It’s a vicious cycle. I have tried diet changes recently but they only add to the diarrhea.

He stopped playing with toys years ago.

Honestly, it is ur call. U will know when he has just had enough and is in pain. When u have a pet that is sick u have 2 make the difficult decision when enough is enough. It totally sucks and I feel 4 ur kitties problem and u. All I’m going 2 tell u is that u know ur cat and there will be a day when Sonny is tired of fighting. Good Luck and I am sorry

diarrhea assessment

Gastroenteritis Symptoms

Gastroenteritis is a general term for an infection or irritation of the digestive tract, mainly the stomach and intestine. Often referred to as the gastro-intestinal flu, it is not associated with influenza and it generally lasts about 72 hours. The main symptoms are nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps and sometimes fever.

Symptoms

The symptoms of gastroenteritis (stomach flu) include diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pains, fever, bloody stools and general weakness. The vomiting is often so severe that bile can be vomited up after all the contents of the stomach is released. Those effected with gastroenteritis often feel the ‘worst they have ever felt’ and it can be quite a traumatic and difficult experience.

Symptoms ordinarily are caused by toxins produced by bacteria in the or by a swelling of the intestine through having a virus or bacteria being present. Ordinarily, poisoning results in a much quicker onset of symptoms, which can strike the sufferer within the hour of eating infected foods.

Treatment of gastroenteritis is focused on alleviating symptoms and discomfort since the usual viruses that cause it will normally run their course. Over-the-counter medications such as Pepto Bismol can be used to lessen nausea. If non-prescription medicines are ineffective, a doctor may prescribe more potent an anti-diarrhea drugs.

There are several causes of gastroenteritis and some of them are due to bacteria and other because of viruses. Gastroenteritis is actually very similar to food poisoning and diarrhea.

Bacteria and virus that cause food poisoning and diarrhea are also responsible for causing gastroenteritis in several people. Viruses like the norovirus and the rotavirus spread to humans from water, dairy products, raw vegetables and uncooked food.

There is no cure. Treatment is to avoid eating the foods that cause a reaction, which is the standard protocol for food allergies as well. However, some have only a handful of foods that are tolerable (don’t cause reactions) and some EG patients simply can’t eat anything at all.

Gastroenteritis is an upset of the stomach. Gastroenteritis causes nausea and vomiting. You may also have diarrhea or a fever. It is sometimes called”stomach flu” but it is not the flu. Germs like viruses and bacteria can cause it.

Bacterial causes are less common in developed countries. Campylobacter jejuni is responsible for 5-10% of all cases, whereas Salmonella species, Shigella species, and various pathogenic types of Escherichia coli is accounted for a tiny percentage.

In general, vomiting and diarrhea are indicative of gastroenteritis. There are no specific laboratory tests needed in order to make a diagnosis for gastroenteritis. Usually, the doctor will get a detailed history from the patient and that includes medical treatments, diet and manner of food preparation, and recent travel destinations.

Many different viruses can cause stomach flu. A virus is a “bad guy”. “Bad guys” cannot be killed by antibodies. As a matter of fact, they are not alive. Unlike bacteria, which are living, very small (microscopic) bugs, viruses cannot be cured with antibiotics.

Nutmeg is best known as an addition to sweet recipes like puddings and pies. It can also be used on meat dishes for an extra added zip that will leave your guests wondering what your secret is. Vegetables are not immune to the benefits of the spice. In fact, nutmeg can be used on almost anything you cook.

There are different solutions to control cockroach infestation depending on your problem and its extent. Before undertaking any treatments getting advice from a trained specialist is always advised as they will undertake a thorough assessment of your particular termite problem.

Stomach cold, also call stomach flu or gastroenteritis, is a commonly encountered disease in our life. Almost anyone once may suffer this trouble. It is caused by the virus of the food. In fact, even though the virus can not be killed, using some general family methods can protect our stomach from suffering as much as possible.

Gastroenteritis unlike the flu is spread by contaminated food or water, or by coming into contact with an infected individual. The flu is a respiratory infection. Bird flu, also called Avian influenza, H5N1, or Avian flu infects birds including chickens and other poultry and also wild birds such as ducks.

Gastroenteritis is notoriously contagious. Be scrupulous about hygiene to prevent it from being spread within the family and the wider community. Children commonly catch the infection from school, when interacting with other children with gastroenteritis.

How can I speed up recovery for gastroenteritis?

Two days ago, as I came home from school, I felt unwell and started having diarrhoea at night. This carried on until yesterday and is still a problem today.

I’ve been taking medication for cramps, diarrhoea and paracetamol for my fever.

Now, I’m skinny and believe my immune system is weak. How can I boost it up to its full potential to treat it? I have an assessment task tomorrow and a practical exam for Biology so I need to recover by then.

Thanks.

The most important of treating viral gastroenteritis in children and adults is to prevent severe loss of fluids (dehydration). This treatment should begin at home. Your physician may give you specific instructions about what kinds of fluid to give. CDC recommends that families with infants and young children keep a supply of oral rehydration solution (ORS) at home at all times and use the solution when diarrhea first occurs in the child. ORS is available at pharmacies without a prescription. Follow the written directions on the ORS package, and use clean or boiled water. Medications, including antibiotics (which have no effect on viruses) and other treatments, should be avoided unless specifically recommended by a physician.
